In the late hours Friday night, the Westside Softball Team seemed to be running out of time in their last game of the regular season against rival Lamar. Down 0-5 heading into the top of the 7th with one last chance to make something happen. Well… they made something happen alright!
Taelor Thomas started the inning with a bunt single. Thomas was followed by a ground out to 3rd base from Olivia Baker, that advanced her to 2nd base. Melissa Hill walked, before Sami Kulbeth ripped a single into centerfield loading the bases. Symone Peters pinch-hit for Kenna Easley and was hit by a pitch and scored Thomas from 3rd. Next up, Mary Alex Krosby rips a double to score Hill and Kulbeth to keep the rally alive. Score is now 3-5 and the Wolves only have one out. Aleksandra Jackson comes up to the plate and draws a walk to load the bases again with Peters, Krosby, and Jackson waiting. Sarah Joy Smith gets down early in the count, 0-2, before crushing a GRAND SLAM HOMERUN over the right field fence. The crowd erupted and the Wolves take a 7-5 lead! Abby Aldis grounded out to 3rd base. Thomas, who started the inning, is back up and hits another single, this time to centerfield. Baker strikes out swinging to end the miraculous top of the inning.
Abby Aldis returns to the mound for the bottom of the 7th with a 2-run lead and Lamar’s big hitters up. Flores lines out to 1st base, Baker, on the first pitch of inning. Then Taylor is intentionally walked. Tindall hits a double to right field, that scores Taylor (Score 7-6). Dickson grounds out to Krosby, and the inning ends with a fly-out to Kenna Easley in right field.
GAME OVER! WESTSIDE WINS!!!
With the win, the Wolves tied for 2nd place in District 20-6A.
